“REDMOND, Washington and ESPOO, Finland – Sept. 2, 2013 – Microsoft Corporation and Nokia Corporation today announced that the Boards of Directors for both companies have decided to enter into a transaction whereby Microsoft will purchase substantially all of Nokia’s Devices & Services business, license Nokia’s patents, and license and use Nokia’s mapping services.

Under the terms of the agreement, Microsoft will pay EUR 3.79 billion to purchase substantially all of Nokia’s Devices & Services business, and EUR 1.65 billion to license Nokia’s patents, for a total transaction price of EUR 5.44 billion in cash. Microsoft will draw upon its overseas cash resources to fund the transaction. The transaction is expected to close in the first quarter of 2014, subject to approval by Nokia’s shareholders, regulatory approvals and other closing conditions.”.

As many know, I am a HUGE Nokia & Windows Phone fan. If you also remember in past videos, I have been upset that Microsoft had the original WP love for HTC which is an obvious fail on both companies’ but even more so for HTC as a ton of people loved the new WP8 device but Nokia has killed it for themselves and Microsoft.

With Nokia being the main leader in the WP space, it’s very obvious why Microsoft is going all in with Nokia– they’re keeping Windows Phone afloat so much that if it started to be an Android OEM, likely WP would be dead.

But, if you go back even further on Twitter and my YouTube videos, at one point I said Nokia would make a Phablet but also start offering Windows RT devices. But why should I have made the prediction for the failing OS [Windows RT]? I noted I kept seeing Nokia evangelists talking about Windows 8 Development & adding W8/Windows 8 Developer to his/her Twitter profile.

What should have also been proof Nokia was coming to WinRT/8? Dev center started offering API access & code samples for Windows 8 (e.g. Nokia Music).

So, all in all? I am very happy about this buy, really excited to see what’s to come as this relationship is well overdue but we have it now & hope they start paying attention to those of us who have been pioneers for Windows Phone in development and promoting– including informing to the point you’d think we owned profit’s or had shares, so send us stuff cause we care!
