myOpenIDAs the news just came to me via email by the CEO of Janrain, which will likely have been the last newsletter any of us receive, February 2014 is when life support ends officially.

I have been a member since early 2007 and just loved how they had a vision, a working service to protect users with then seemed too much for most as you could have a phone call to make sure you are the proper person logging in.

As we see today, OAuth/2 aka second verification protocols are welcomed by more and more. Especially with the advanced phishing emails, malware, web exploits, and now even hackers getting in to LinkedIn, Twitter, and other services who also give a Login Service to App & Website owners.

What you never heard with myOpenID was how they’ve been hacked and everyone’s data compromised. They had top-notch methods and multiple login choices putting the USER in charge of his/her security.

Will Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and other services that offer developers easy sign in take a page from the now soon to be deceased brand? Not till the users DEMAND it but with the NSA on top of them, it won’t likely happen because security makes you a suspect!

You will be missed and thank you from us ALL!
